Davis Vision History

1917   Davis Optical is founded as a family-owned optical store.

1964   Davis Vision incorporated begins providing managed vision care programs.

1996   Highmark acquires Davis Vision as a wholly-owned subsidiary.

2006   Davis Vision’s parent company acquires Eye Care Centers of America, now known as Visionworks, which is the largest U.S.-owned specialty optical eyewear chain.

2014  Davis Vision continues to grow, providing benefits and services to 22 million members across thousands of client groups spanning all industries, trades and professions. Among the client list are Fortune 500 companies, labor organizations, managed care companies and local, state and federal government employees.

2017  Davis Vision is acquired by Centerbridge Partners in a move that merges Davis Vision with Centerbridge’s existing managed vision care company, Superior Vision. Together as one new company, they will service millions of additional Americans and compete as a leader in the managed vision care industry.
