About Focus On America®

Davis Vision’s worldwide community outreach efforts provide much needed vision care services to those who may not otherwise receive it. Proper vision care helps prevent future eye and overall health care problems. Over $10 million in products and services have been provided through Davis Vision’s outreach initiatives.

About the Focus on America® Vision Screenings:

  • Davis Vision partners with schools and organizations to provide vision screenings free of charge for children and individuals who are uninsured or underinsured.
  • Those who require additional vision care receive vouchers for a free follow-up eye examination and eyewear at participating locations.
  • Through Focus on America®, over 10,000 children have received a vision screening and nearly 5,000 children required follow-up care. The vision screening initiatives provided over $1.5 million in services.
  • Many screenings are held in conjunction with national sports teams including the Pittsburgh Pirates, Arizona Diamondbacks, San Antonio Spurs, New York Mets and Minnesota Twins.
  • The Focus on America® program has visited many communities around the U.S. including Albuquerque, Atlanta, Baltimore, Chicago, Detroit, New Orleans and Phoenix.
  • In 2011, we will provide 52 vision screenings throughout the United States, in areas identified by the U.S. Census Bureau as being highest in unemployment and families without medical insurance.

In 2011, Davis Vision’s Focus on America® program spotlights vision and literacy through its “Bring a Book. Get a Book. See a Book” initiative. Twenty-six of 52 scheduled vision screenings will be held in conjunction with libraries across the country, encouraging children to obtain their first library card, swap books and develop a passion for reading. Healthy vision affects not just literacy, but also school success, and one quarter of school-age children have a vision problem that can affect learning. In partnership with First Book, Davis Vision will ensure children at these events receive a free book in addition to free eye care. Along with the new library card, these book giveaways will help participants take steps on the path towards a lifelong love for reading.
